Searching for a Single Location

Integrated Mapping Assessment Project

This method of searching will retrieve a single place by name (or one nearby the desired location) and will present all data in the database related to the specified. This type of search is started by using the

"Look for a place by name"

link found on the introduction page.

The first screen seen will look like the following:

Opening screen, multiple search

The frame at the top of the screen always contains a menu to go to specific places in the Integrated Mapping Assessment Project (IMAP) website. IMAP is the source for the maps used in this program.

The column on the left contains navigation buttons to return to the home page, to activate either of the search strategies, to report at the contents of the database or to enable additional help by adding help icons at various places around the page.

The main portion of the page is reserved for the form to enter the place name desired. A popup scrolling list contains the names of all the provinces known to be included in the database, and a text field (as indicated by the arrow in the screen shot) is provided to enter the name or name fragment. The "Lookup this Place" button will cause the location database to be searched for names matching the part entered. A page will then be presented with anything found in the database, with 2 buttons for each item:

Opening screen, multiple search

Selecting the "This is Close" button will allow the user to select a region around the particular place using the buttons on the following screen:

Opening screen, multiple search

Selecting one of the distances on this page will search the database of places again for places matching the distance criteria. These places will be displayed on a page similar to the first above, allowing further selection of "Close" or exact places.

Selecting the "This is the Place" button wil use the place name to search the database for the data associated with the place, and to present it on the screen as shown below:
